Geert painted two bottles yesterday evening, in a really professional and scientific way, as you all will surely appreciate. We hope that in this way, they will be easier to spot in the air than a transparent bottle.

Our first attempt at a large bottle. We made some holes in the base of the top bottle so air and water can travel between the top section to the bottom.

Both bottles are connected using duct tape.

Alas, this kind of connection is clearly not sufficient.

Interesting: to the left, a piece of the duct tape that is not stretched out. More rightwards, you can see that the tape is stretched substantially. It appears that in the places were there was only one layer of duct tape, the tape was stretched; where there were two overlapping layers of tape, it was not stretched very much.

Maybe some rapid glue will help us better.

First, Jan applies glue all around the inside of the bottom bottle.

The two bottles are not exactly aligned straight, but it's worth a try.

We decided to add some duct tape too (this time, two layers of it) for extra strength, since the glue alone did not seem entirely satisfactory: the bottles seemed to separate a bit and some glue seemed to leak out of it.
After some pumping, the cork shot out of our bottle with a large bang. This indicates that this setup is able to retain some pressure, despite the fact that it still seems to leak a bit. If the weather is nice tomorrow, we'll try it with water and see what happens ... So stay tuned and watch this space!
