Stijn happens to have a scope so let's test!
We connect the signal that is supposed to go to the beeper to the scope.
This picture is the clearest of all and shows that something is amiss:
I intended the circuit to generate a nice block pulse: about 50% of the time
off, about 50% of the time on. Here you can see it's about 75% (if not more) of the time
on and the transition from on to off happens too in a rather funny way.
Moreover, it appears that the circuit is generating somewhere between
100000 and 1000000 pulses per second and not about 1000 per second as intended!
Looking at the power supply to the left of the scope, we notice
that at 5.0V, the circuit draws 0.02 amps.
