As time goes on I will try to add some picture galleries to this page. On my travels I take usually a lot of pictures (it is so easy with a digital camera), but in many cases I lack afterwards the time to organize all these photographs so that they become easily accessible. I hope that keeping this page up to date will force me to spend at least some minimal amount of time on organizing my photo collections.

.Mac Web Gallery
In August 2007 Apple has released a new version of iPhoto and extended their dotMac service. The combination of these tools allows an extremely easy way to publish picture galleries, almost directly from the camera. In the period June-August 2007 I have been at so many different places and events that I was unable (just by lack of time) to keep up - as I had intended to do - with the regular publication on this site of new picture galleries, reporting on these events. For that reason, and also in order not to burden too much our university server, I have decided to publish from now on my picture galleries on my dotMac site. The only point is that there you will find a mixture of personal and more professionally oriented galleries. Here I will just give a brief reference to the galleries from this last category. At the moment (August 2007) I still have a backlog of several months which I hope to work away in the coming weeks.

.Mac Web Gallery Finished
As of July 2012 Apple has finished the .Mac (later rebranded as MobileMe) service. I have redirected all .Mac galleries to my new Zangzing account.

Equadiff 2007, Vienna
From August 5th till August 12th 2007 we were in Vienna where I attended the Equadiff 2007 conference. A selection of pictures I took during that week can be seen by clicking on the photo above. The main social event of the conference was the conference dinner in the impressive ballroom of the Vienna Rathaus. There was almost no time for tourism (at least not for myself, Anita visited a lot of musea, castles and gardens), but I found the time to make a renewed visit to the Hundertwasser House.

ICDEA 2007, Lisbon
This gallery contains some of the pictures I have taken at the ICDEA 2007 conference held in Lisbon (Portugal) from June 2nd till June 9th, 2007. Most of these pictures were taken at the social events of the conference (the welcome drink, a trip to the Palace of Mafra and Cabo da Roca, and the conference dinner).

Otranto 2007
Here are some of the pictures (mainly of participants) I have taken at the SPT 2007 conference held in Otranto (Puglia, southern Italy) from June 2nd till June 9th, 2007. More pictures can be found at my separate blog site.

Freddy Dumortier's birthday conference
Here are some of the pictures I have taken at the conference Dynamics in Perturbations held at the University of Hasselt from April 23th till April 27th 2007; the conference was in honour of Freddy Dumortier on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Here you can read more about this conference.

Laufen and Salzburg
From March 31st till April 5th 2007 we were in Laufen (Germany) where I attended the conference "Progress on Difference Equations 2007". Laufen is a small town in the Bavarian Alps of southern Germany, near the Austrian border and Salzburg, and also close to the Königssee and Berchtesgaden.

Mexico
From February 5th till February 20th 2007 we made a trip to Mexico where I gave lectures at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City, at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, and at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma in Puebla, and where at the end of our stay I attended the first part of the International Workshop on "Topics in Nonlinear Dynamics and Complexity", also in Puebla. In this gallery you can see some pictures and a movie from this trip.

Sevilla
Since the late nineties I spend regularly some time in Sevilla where I have an excellent cooperation with Jorge Galán and the people around him at the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros of the University of Sevilla. I like the town and its athmosphere very much. This gallery gives you an impression of Sevilla as seen from the tower of its main building, the Giralda.

Class Reunion in Sevilla
In 2006 I spent 3 months in Sevilla, from September 24 (my 60th birthday) till Christmas; most of the time Anita was with me. We had lots of visitors during that period, but one of these visits was quite special. Indeed, from November 10 till November 13 we had a highschool class reunion in Sevilla! Ten of the seventeen students from my highschool class spent 4 days of beautiful weather in Sevilla, enjoying the many characteristic sights and the typical food; together with the wifes we were a group of seventeen. Quite remarkable, in view of the fact that we left our highschool in Waregem in 1964! Here you can see the program of this visit (in Dutch). And here you can meet my old comrades from highschool who came to Sevilla for our class reunion.
Most of the time I had to concentrate on organizing things and on keeping the group together, so I did not take many pictures. In the picture gallery I have included some photo's which I borrowed from Remi and Paul. A more complete picture show (assembled by Remi) of the event can be seen here.

Workshop in Ghent
On Thursday June 22nd and Friday June 23rd 2006 there was a Workshop on Applied Dynamical Systems organized by my colleague Willy Govaerts at our university, more in particular at "Het Pand", a restored twelfth century monastery in the center of Ghent. This workshop was a continuation of a sequence of similar workshops organized since the early nineties in (among other places) Utrecht, Ghent, Sevilla and Bristol. The weather was very nice, so we spent a lot of time discussing at the terrasses in the center of Ghent. Among the participants there was Sebius Doedel from Montréal and a large delegation from Sevilla. Since during the last eight to ten years I have been at numerous parties in Montréal and Sevilla I took the occasion to invite Sebius and the group from Sevilla together with some other participants for a barbecue party at my house. They were joined by Jan Sanders and his wife Wil, and by some members of my family. The party took place on the day after the workshop. In the picture gallery you can see some photo's taken at this barbecue party by myself and by some other participant(s), I forgot exactly who but I guess it was Fernando. Bull Fight in Sevilla
Since a number of years it so happens that on my birthday (September 24) we are in Sevilla. In 2005 I received from the Applied Mathematics department of the Engineering School as a birthday present two tickets for the bull fight of Sunday September 25, the last "corrida" of the 2005 season. This bull fight takes place in the largest and nicest bull fight ring of Spain, the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, located along the Gualdaquivir river. The event started in the late afternoon, ending at the moment the sun was going down at the other side of the river. There were six fights, each taking about 20 minutes. Each of the fights follows very rigorously a classical choreography about which you can read here. I took pictures with a small digital camera with a limited zoom; since the arena is quite large and the events follow rather quickly at some moments not all my pictures are very sharp. Horse Parade 2005
Waregem, the city where I live, has a special relation with horses. Every year, at the last weekend of August, there are the big festivities of "Waregem Koerse", with as highpoint the Grand Steeplechase of Flanders on tuesday afternoon. In 2005, as part of the Waregem Koerse festivities, there was on the hypodrome an exhibition of about two hundred livesize horses made from glass fibre and decorated by Belgian and international artists. The picture gallery gives an impression of this colorful Horse Parade.
