The mini-symposium “Absolute Arithmetic and \mathbb{F}_1-Geometry” is part of the official scientific programme of the prestigious quadrennial European Congress of Mathematics (July 2-7 2012, Krakow, Poland). This conference is widely considered to be one of the most important mathematical gatherings around. The general character of the programme provides attendees with a unique chance of an overlook of contemporary mathematics, beyond their own field of research. The programme of the congress maintains between lectures giving a broad overview of active mathematical disciplines and more specialized talks on recent results. During the congress several prestigious prizes established by the European Mathematical Scoiety will be awarded.

The goal of the mini-symposium itself is to present the state of the art of the emerging and mysterious theory surrounding the “field with one element”. This nonexisting object is one of the main stars in a programme which aims at solving the highly celebrated “Riemann Hypothesis” (proposed by Bernhard Riemann in 1859).
