I am currently part of the algebra research group of the Mathematics department of the University of Gent. My research lies inside geometric group theory and I am interested in studying certain classes of totally disconnected locally compact groups.

The groups that I am studying at the moment arise as groups of automorphisms of some regular CAT(0) spaces (as trees, buildings, polygonal complexes, etc) in which the local action is prescribed by a finite set of permutation groups.

This allows one to use several local-to-global arguments and it is very interesting to investigate the relation between the group theoretical properties of the groups prescribing the local action and the global topological properties of the whole group
This research line connects group theory, graph theory and combinatorics, topology and geometry.

My PhD in part of a FWO (scientific research organization of Flanders) project under the supervision of the professor Tom de Medts.
