There exist several public events where everyone can be in touch with mathematics in a fun or interesting way. Such event are important, as they teach the value of mathematics in everyday life and give insight in what the study of mathematics is all about. Spoiler: it's not just arithmetic.

On each of the events below, there is a possible chance of you running into me.

Wooow – science festival

Each year, on the last sunday of November, the city of Ghent is (figuratively) turned into an exciting science lab, full of fun experiments and interesting lectures about all kinds of topics within the exact sciences. Everyone is more than welcome on this Day of Science (Dag van de Wetenschap)!

During the festival, me and my colleagues organise a 'math workshop' with fun and interactive puzzles for young and old.

Moreover, each year I give a short and accessible talk about a fun topic arising from pure mathematics. Below, you can retrieve the slides I made for each of the talks. If you want me to give such topics as lectures or lessons in your classroom, click here!

SID-ins

At the start of each year, the Flemish government – together with a huge number of high schools and universities – organises a SID-in for soon-to-be graduated secondary school students to help them choose what to study when aiming to achieve a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Flanders.
I'm stationed on that event to tell you all about studying Mathematics, Fysics and Astronomy or Computer Science at Ghent University.

Imaginary

Imaginary visits Belgium from September 2022 till May 2023! The exhibition will be in Ghent from October 17th till November 12th. Visit this website for more info!

Imaginary is an 'interactive traveling exhibition' emphasizing the (visual) beauty of mathematics. At the end of 2015, the exhibition passed Ghent and was temporarily localized in the science museum of Ghent University. During that period, I acted as a guide for classes visiting the exhibition.

It's definitely worth to check their website and keep an eye on upcoming events in Belgium!
