Galois Geometries and Applications 2009

"Galois is all around"

Evariste Galois 1811 - 1832

Ghent, 25 - 29 May 2009

Next to being a topic in pure mathematics, we all know that Galois geometries have many close links to practical applications, such as coding theory and cryptography.

During the conference, we wish to explore Galois geometries and their applications. We focus in particular on:

  • Galois geometries and coding theory.
  • Galois geometries and cryptography.
  • Galois geometries and design theory.
  • Substructures in Galois geometries.

The conference will take place at the Department of Pure Mathematics and Computer Algebra, Ghent University, Belgium, from 25 - 29 May 2009.

Invited Speakers

Ivan Landjev (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences): Galois geometries and coding theory.

Keith Martin (Royal Holloway, England): Galois geometry and cryptography.

Alexander Pott (Otto-von-Guericke-Universität, Magdeburg, Germany): (Almost) Perfect nonlinear functions in cryptography and geometry.

Mercè Villanueva (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain): Nonlinear perfect codes and their impact on designs and geometry.

Proceedings

The proceedings of the conference will be published in a special volume of Designs, Codes and Cryptography. The submission of articles is possible from now on. Please select as article type "Galoisgeometries2009". All participants will be invited to submit original papers on the topics of the conference. The submitted articles will be refereed according to the standards of Designs, Codes and Cryptography. Deadline for submission is 30 June 2009.
